Board of Regents visits Kenai River Campus

Kenai Peninsula College

The University of Alaska Board of Regents, along with the University of Alaska administrators, chancellors and provosts, will be holding their regular meeting at KPC’s Kenai River Campus April 12 and 13. This important meeting comes to a KPC campus once every 9-10 years and offers a great opportunity for the college to showcase facilities, programs and students. Except for executive sessions, the meetings are open to the public and there will be time set aside for public testimony.

Land clearing started on KPC construction projects
Land clearing for KPC’s Kenai River Campus Student Housing and Career and Technical Education Center construction projects has begun. It should be noted that there will be a marked increase in heavy traffic along College Road and Poppy Lane. Land clearing activities near KRC will be scheduled for Fridays and weekends to reduce inconvenience for those traveling to and from the campus. Both projects are scheduled to be completed by August 2013. For more information, please contact KRC Construction Manager Phillip Miller at 262-0325.

Enjoy an afternoon of jazz at the Kenai River Campus
The Performing Arts Society and the KPC Showcase will be presenting an afternoon of jazz with The Rick Zelinsky Jazz Quintet at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 15 at the Kenai River Campus. Rick Zelinsky is a well-known, critically acclaimed Anchorage musician who teaches saxophone at UAA. During his April 15 performance at KRC, Zelinsky will be joined by Pat Owens on trumpet, Nick Petumenos on guitar, Dirk Westfall on bass and Brandon Cockburn on drums. General admission for the concert is $20 and student admission is $10. Tickets can be purchased at the KRC Bookstore. For more information, please contact Dave Atcheson at 262-0346.

KPC scholarship deadlines coming up
KPC has several excellent scholarships available for the 2012/13 school year. The deadline to turn in applications for two major scholarships is coming up soon.

The KPC High School Senior Tuition Scholarship is open to graduating seniors from several Peninsula high schools. This scholarship may be used for attendance during the 2012/13 academic year at KPC’s Kenai River Campus. Chosen recipients will have tuition (up to 12 credits) waived for the fall and spring semesters of the 2012/13 school year. Applicants must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) before applying.

The KPC 2012/13 Fall Scholarship Packet allows KPC students to apply for 23 scholarships by turning in just one application. Students who are interested in applying need to complete the scholarship applicant form, the FAFSA, a personal essay and attach unofficial transcripts to their application. Several scholarships included in the packet have additional requirements which are listed in their descriptions.

Students can access applications and learn more about these scholarships at http://www.kpc.alaska.edu/KPC/scholarships/. Both scholarships are due to the KRC Financial Aid Office by 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 12. For more information, please contact Carrie Burford at 262-0331.
