The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. at 148 N. Binkley Street in Soldotna (unless otherwise noted).

KPBSD Career and Technical Education

The KPBSD Career and Tech Department is offering free after school academies to train students in the welding, construction and medical fields.

Any high school student is able to participate in any of our academies. If a student successfully completes the 60 hour academy they will receive a practical art credit. Transportation may be provided if needed.

Current Academies and their locations:

Welding: Workforce Development Center (located behind KCHS), starts Sept. 11 at 2:30 p.m. Students will be constructing an aluminum drift boat. 

Construction: Nikiski (Triumvirate Theatre just outside of Kenai), starts Sept. 11-Oct. 17, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 2:30-6:00 p.m. Students will be installing wood floor, sinks, toilet, etc. Basic carpentry and plumbing will be taught.

Construction: Workforce Development Center, starts Sept. 11 at 2:30. Students will be finishing the construction of a shed.

Construction: Skyview High School, starts Oct. 9-Dec. 13, Tuesday and Thursday, 3:00-6:00. Students will be building a gazebo.

Construction: Ninilchik (Kenai Peninsula Fair Grounds), students will be learning how to make and fit cabinets in a kitchen and basic carpentry.

Funding for the Alaska Construction Academies comes from a grant from the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the Alaska Department of Commerce and Economic Development and the Alaska Youth First Program.


Cook Inlet Academy

If you are willing to volunteer this school year on any level, please contact the front office at 262-5101. 

Make sure to check out Sycamore for important school information, especially if your student is involved in athletics. All practice information and anything pertaining to sports will be posted here. If you need assistance with accessing Sycamore, please do not hesitate to contact the office for assistance.

A big thank you to those of you who have taken on some of the really urgent volunteer needs this week.  You are making CIA a great place to be.  Other needs we could use help with are: National Jr. Honor Society Advisor, Wednesday and Friday Lunch mom/dad (this is about a half hour commitment each Wednesday at 11:20 a.m.), and Chapel Speakers.

Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m. is Parent Night.

Connections Home-school

Connections Homeschool Program has open enrollment for all students at this time. All students not enrolled in public school are encouraged to contact the Connections office at 714-8880 to learn about all of the educational benefits that Connections Homeschool Program can provide for children. School pictures will be Oct. 4 from 1-4 p.m. in the Borough Assembly Chambers located on the lower level of the Borough Building on Binkley Street. Retakes will be held Nov. 15.


Kaleidoscope School of Arts and Science

PTA committees are starting to gear up for this year. The Art committee will meet on Sept. 12 at 4:00 p.m. in the school library. This committee is in the planning stages of finding an art piece for the outside of our school. 

There will be a committee meeting for anyone interested in being part of the Holiday Extravaganza, Sept. 14 at 9:15 a.m. in the Parent Room. The next PTA meeting will be Sept. 27 at 6:00 p.m. in the library. For questions or concerns please contact them at The yearbook is starting up. Any pictures of field trips, classroom action or any other great photos can be turned in at the office for the yearbook committee on a CD or jump drive. 

The 3rd and 4th grade parents are invited to a Parent Meeting in Mrs. Stroh’s classroom on Sept. 11. More information will be provided by the teachers.

The APC will meet on Sept. 20 at 4:00 p.m. Parents are welcome to attend. Please contact Chairman Jeremy Hamilton at for more information. 

Please make sure all changes to your student’s after school plans are to the office by 2:30 p.m. If your child will be walking or riding a bike home for the first time, please make sure to send a note or call the office so we know they have permission. Also, please remember that if they are riding a bike, they must a helmet. 

The school office closes at 4:15 p.m. If you are worried about your student’s bus running late, please contact the bus barn at 260-3557. They will be able to help you after hours. 


Kalifornsky Beach Elementary

Kenai Central High School

Attention all students: Staying on top of your studies at the beginning of the year is extremely important to your academic success this year. If you are looking for a quiet place to study or if you need some extra help, the Kardinal Study Hall is available Monday through Thursday from 2:30-3:30.

Kenai Middle

Sports are in full swing here at KMS. We have soccer games on Sept. 11 at Soldotna Middle School and on the 13th at Kenai Middle School. Both games will begin at 3 p.m. Our cross country running team will have a meet in Seward on the 14th at 3 p.m. School pictures are scheduled to be Sept. 13 beginning at 8 a.m. News from our nurse: PPD placement for 7th graders and any new students will be held on the 25th and our Mass Student Health Screening will be on the 27th. Volunteers for our health screening are both welcome and needed. Please call Nurse Dixie for more information at 283-1700.


Nikiski North Star Elementary

Today at 2:45 p.m. we will have a Summer Reading Celebration in the school gym. We will be recognizing students who read and recorded no less than 1,200 minutes over the summer. There are about fifty students completing the task and they will be honored with an ice cream party, Cosmic Summer Reading T-shirt and a free book. Parents, family, and guardians are welcome to attend.

There will be a site council meeting today at 4 p.m. in the teacher’s lounge. Our site council meets to obtain parent and community input into school and district decisions. A few topics that will be discussed at this meeting include school academic data, proposals for site council goals for this year and discussion on the first community health fair that took place in August. Redoubt Elementary

Welcome new staff members at Redoubt Elementary: Jen Dowd, Assistant Principal; Deb Pollock, 2nd grade; Staci Wells, 1st grade; and Chelsea Van Vickle, 1st grade.

Our school-wide fundraiser began Sept. 6. Packets and order forms were sent home on Thursday. Students are encouraged to sell to friends, family, parents and co-workers. Students should not be going around door to door. Online orders can also be placed. Money raised helps to pay for new computers, technology upgrades, play-ground equipment, and much more. All orders and money are due Sept. 19. Please contact Mrs. Hale if you have any questions at 260-4341.

Walk your kids to school day is Sept. 26.

PTA meets Sept. 11 at 5 p.m. Redoubt Elementary Teacher’s Lounge

School Pictures will be Sept. 25 for all students. Siblings are welcome to be photographed the same day between 11:30 and 12:15. Retakes will be Oct. 23.

School District Volunteers, if you are interested in volunteering in our schools you will be required to complete a screening process. To complete the screening process, visit the District’s Web page at and click on Employment, then click on Volunteer, then on Volunteer All Vacancies, and find the location where you wish to volunteer. River City Academy

Picture Day will be on Sept. 13. All students will be photographed and receive a student ID. Picture packets will be sent home with students prior to picture day. Two parent volunteers are needed to help on this day.

River City Academy’s Site Council will be meeting on Sept.18 at 6 p.m. in the upstairs office. Agenda items will include a review of the student handbook, the new social environments standards, CORE (Culture of Respect for Everyone) and ideas for this year’s interim classes. Parents and students are welcome to attend. 

Students in middle or high school who are interested in joining a small, student centered school are encouraged to call the office at 714-8945 or visit River City Academy’s site from the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District schools section. RCA is a performance-based school which serves students in grades 7-12. Students are able to work at their own proficiency level and at their own pace, inside a classroom setting. Students may also earn standards outside the school day in community activities, sports, and work environments.

Attention Parents.  Have you activated your PowerSchool account? If not, please contact the school at 260-2500 to request the information you need to view your child’s grades, attendance, and fees. This is an excellent way to monitor their progress throughout the school year.
