Kenai Peninsula College: Around Campus

Posted: December 9, 2012 - 3:29pm

Applications for KRC student housing will be accepted beginning April 15, 2013 for the fall 2013 semester, the same day general public registration opens. There is a $40 application fee and a $300 security deposit is required of all housing applicants.

To be eligible for student housing, students must meet the criteria for student status. Students must be registered for at least nine credits from KPC. Preference will be given to students signed up for 12 or more KPC credits. Students must also be in good standing with the Office of Residence Life and the Campus Judicial Committee.

It is anticipated that the entire application process will be facilitated through UAOnline, the University of Alaska information management system. Other forms that will be required to determine housing eligibility include a Placement Profile, Housing Agreement and current immunization status. Every attempt will be made to accommodate students’ housing placement requests, on a first-come, first-served basis, to ensure the best possible roommate pairing.

Visit www.kpcdorms.com to learn more about the student housing facility. Anyone interested can request to receive periodic updates as KPC gets closer to accepting applications and deposits for the fall 2013 semester. Updates will be sent via e-mail when there is significant new information to share.

Effective Jan. 9, 2013, Tammie Willis will join the KPC team in her position as the first-ever associate director of residence life.

Her responsibilities include supervising and directing all aspects of the residence life program, including supervising residence life staff, facility maintenance, budget and utilization of the facility for commercial rental during the summer. Willis will be responsible for policy development, crisis management and enforcement of the student code of conduct in the residence hall. She will also be responsible for ensuring the residence life program is educationally enriched and promotes academic success and an awareness of educational, cultural and social issues contributing to personal growth.

Willis has many years of experience in residence life. She is currently the assistant director of residence life at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma (9/06-12/12); was resident director at Virginia Commonwealth University (8/02-8/05); and resident director of Mary Washington College in Virginia (8/00-8/02). She looks forward to starting KPC’s residence life program and is “very excited to join a wonderful team of people who are doing some great things at KPC.”

Willis holds a master’s in education, adult learning (2005) and a master’s in music (2003) from Virginia Commonwealth University.

She holds a bachelor’s in liberal studies, music composition and creative writing (2001) from Mary Washington College and a bachelor’s in biology (1991) from Old Dominion University.

Santa Claus will be visiting KRC from 12-3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 in the McLane Commons. The public is welcome to attend this fun event, free of charge. Bring the kids and a camera. Free hot cocoa and cookies will be offered, courtesy of the KRC Student Union, who will be sponsoring this family event.
