Posted: January 20, 2013 - 11:11am  |  Updated: January 21, 2013 - 10:28am

Everyone in the community is invited to enjoy an evening of traditional Irish music and folklore at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the McLane Commons at the Kenai River Campus. Renowned musicians John Walsh (tenor banjo), Mikey Beglan (rhythmic button accordion) and Nancy Conescu (guitarist and vocalist) will perform the free concert.

The event is being sponsored by the KRC Learning Center, in conjunction with the Multicultural Consortium, the UAA Diversity Action Council and the KPC Showcase series.

For more information, contact Diane Taylor at 262-0328 or e-mail dttaylor@kpc.alaska.edu.

KPC locations closed

All KPC locations are closed today, in observance of Alaska Civil Rights Day. Campuses and extension sites will reopen with normal hours on Tuesday.

Double the impact to scholarships

The University of Alaska has just announced that ExxonMobil has again committed to match all Pick.Click.Give. gifts to support higher education in Alaska, up to $100,000.

Alaskans who file for their Permanent Fund Dividend and choose to donate to KPC will see their donations go directly to student scholarships. All donations will have twice the impact by giving Alaskans greater access to higher education.

The process is easy and can be done while applying online for the PFD. Click on the Pick.Click.Give. option and follow the instructions to make donations from $25 to the amount of the full dividend. The entire donation will be matched by ExxonMobil.

Already filed for the PFD? No problem! Donors can still add Kenai Peninsula College to their Pick.Click.Give. choices or make a larger gift by going to https://myalaska.state.ak.us/myPFDInfo/retro and updating the previously filed PFD application.

All donations are greatly appreciated by the college and the students who will benefit from the scholarships that are funded. For more information, contact the KPC Advancement office at 262-0320 or e-mail wskendrick@kpc.alaska.edu.

KPC spring semester enrollment update

Enrollment data indicates that the spring semester that just got underway is on par with last spring’s enrollments. Final comparisons will not be available until the close of late registration, but all indicators point to continued growth at KPC.

The first installment of the ongoing community dialogues is scheduled at 7 p.m. on Jan. 25. The topic that will be discussed is “Dealing with costs of climate change on the Kenai Peninsula: What’s the plan?”

The event is sponsored by the Roundtable Center for Mediation and Community Dialogue and the KRC Student Union. There will be two additional dialogues this semester, one in February and one in March.

Attendees are invited to bring a dish to share at an optional potluck that begins at 6:30 p.m. before the dialogue begins. For more information, contact Krista Timlin at 262-0337 or e-mail kltimlin@kpc.alaska.edu.
