The public is invited to enroll in KPC’s popular course, CED A133: Beginning Fly Fishing, which will be taught by Dave Atcheson, experienced instructor and author of “Fishing Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula: A Complete Angler’s Guide.”
The one-credit, six-week course will be offered at both KPC’s Kenai River Campus in Soldotna as well as the Kachemak Bay Campus in Homer. The KRC course will kick off on March 20 and will meet from 7:15-9:15 p.m. on Thursdays in room 158. The KBC course will begin on March 21 and will meet from 5:30-8 p.m. on Fridays in room 212.
Beginning Fly Fishing introduces the basics, including selection of equipment, types of line, flies, and techniques geared toward local lakes and streams. The course is designed for those new to fly fishing. Enroll today and learn how to fish for trout, salmon and steelhead!

Summer registration open, fall registration just around the corner
Registration for KPC’s 2014 summer semester recently opened to the general public. Returning admitted students had one week of priority registration to ensure that they could secure seats in classes they need to graduate. As anticipated, classes are already filling, so anyone wanting to attend KPC this summer should register as soon as possible. Courses begin on May 19. Browse course offerings on KPC’s searchable schedule, located online at www.kpc.alaska.edu/schedule.
In addition to summer registration opening, priority registration for KPC’s 2014 fall semester will be opening for admitted, degree-seeking students (based on class standing) beginning April 7. Senior status students can begin registering on April 7; juniors will follow on April 8; sophomores on April 9; and freshmen on April 10. The week of April 14 is reserved for students with a pending degree-seeking status.
Fall registration will open to the general public on April 21. Questions concerning registration should be directed toward KPC Student Services at 262-0330.
Scholarship opportunities for high school and college students
KPC’s 2014/15 high school seniors tuition scholarship packet and 2014 fall scholarship packet are both currently available to local students.
KPC’s 2014/15 high school seniors tuition scholarship packet offers several tuition scholarships to graduating seniors from local schools including: Cook Inlet Academy, Kenai Alternative High School, Kenai High School, Nikiski High School, Ninilchik High School, Seward High School, Skyview High School, Soldotna High School and Kenai Peninsula Borough residents participating in home-school programs. Chosen recipients will have full-time tuition (up to 15 credits) waived for the fall and spring semesters of KPC’s 2014/15 school year. This scholarship may be used for attendance during the academic year at KPC’s Kenai River Campus in Soldotna or at the Resurrection Bay Extension Site in Seward. Applications are due to the KPC financial aid office by April 3, 2014.
KPC’s 2014 fall scholarship packet is open to students who are admitted in a UAA or KPC degree or certificate program. This packet offers students the opportunity to apply for over 20 KPC scholarships by turning in just one application! Applications are due to the KPC financial aid office by April 10, 2014.
