Surplus auction scheduled
The public is invited to attend a surplus auction of equipment, furniture, office-related equipment, tools and other miscellaneous items. The complete list of items can be viewed online at http://bit.ly/1IIRp9H .
Auction items can be previewed from 12-4 p.m. on Friday, May 1 and from 8:30-11 a.m. on Saturday, May 2 in the Facilities Maintenance department located on the north end of the Ward Building. 2015 Kachemak Bay Writers’ Conference
The popular, nationally recognized writing conference, held at Land’s End Resort in Homer, features workshops, panel presentations, readings and craft talks on the topics of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, children’s writing and publishing.
In addition, there will several supplemental events offered to participants, including manuscript reviews, open mic sessions, agent/editor consultations and a boat cruise with authors.
This year’s conference will be held from June 12-16 and the keynote speaker will be novelist and short story writer Andre Dubus III.
The early registration period for the public continues through May 1 ($375) and admitted, UA degree-seeking students can also register for the conference during this period ($325). After May 1, registrations will be contingent on space available and the cost rises to $400.
The registration fee covers all conference activities, including opening dinner, workshops and luncheons.

Commencement marks students’ accomplishments
The fourth-fifth annual KRC graduation ceremony will be held at 7 p.m., May 7 in the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium at Kenai Central High School. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Jane Haigh, KRC assistant professor of history. The KRC valedictorian for 2014-2015 will be Hunter Hamrick, who is graduating with an associate of applied science degree in process technology. Jean Brockel will be presented the UA Meritorious Service Award at the KRC ceremony. The award, conferred by the UA Board of Regents, marks her significant dedication to public, academic, volunteer and philanthropic service to the university and Alaska. Brockel has spent nearly 60 years fostering growth in the arts, higher education and lifelong learning on the Kenai Peninsula as an adjunct instructor, public school teacher, and the wife of KPC’s founding director, Clayton Brockel.
2015 Juried Student Exhibition on display
The public is invited to KRC’s 2015 Juried Student Exhibition that will be on display through May 8 in the Gary L. Freeburg Gallery. Jurors for the exhibition include Celia Anderson, who formerly headed up the KRC art department and Nicole Lopez who earned her UAA bachelor of art’s degree last year. Mark the calendar to attend the show’s closing reception from 2-3:30 p.m. on May 8. Light refreshments will be provided and student artists will be on hand to discuss their work.
