Clothing, cold weather, outdoors and recess:

Students should come to school dressed for the weather and prepared to go outside. All children go outside for recess until the chill factor temperature is minus 10-degrees Fahrenheit.

Generally any child well enough to come to school is well enough to go outside for recess. Even shortened recesses give the children a much needed break in routine and fresh air. A child too ill to go out-side should be recuperating at home. When special circumstances exist, students may be allowed to remain indoors for recess with a doctor’s note. Please contact the school nurse to make arrangements.

Boots are essential for outdoor recess. A pair of shoes should be kept at school to wear inside the building. Sitting with boots on all day is not healthy for feet. Students also need a heavy, winter weight coat, snow pants or a snowsuit, warm hat or hood, and gloves or mittens. Contact the school nurse if you need help securing these items for your child.

Soldotna High School Student Council is sponsoring our Annual Holiday Food Drive.

It will run from Nov. 4-18. We are collecting all types of food but we are focused on providing holiday meals for families both in our school and our community.

Last year we were able to provide over 30 holiday meals for families and donate over 400 lbs of food to the local food bank. If you would like to help by donating holiday food items such as turkeys, potatoes, canned vegetables, or more you may contact Lana Syverson at lsyverson@kpbsd.k12.ak.us or by dropping it off at the high school. Students in first period classes will be competing for prizes to see which class can bring in the most food for the food drive. If you or your family would like to have a holiday food box, please contact the school office.

Every Friday is spirit Friday. Wear your SoHi gear for a chance to win gift cards and more. The SOHI Library Media Center will be open 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday. Contact Ms. Wear at 260.7036 or twear@kpbsd.k12.ak.us for information on the 4:15 p.m. bus.

Pool Schedule:

— Morning lap swim 6-7:30 a.m., Monday through Friday

— Evening lap swim 6-7 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays

— Evening open swim 7-9:00 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays

Also note that during school hours the only open door will be the Front Entrance Commons/Flag Pole doors. The above is to improve our overall school security. There are two ways to order a transcript. Each way serves a different purpose. If you need a transcript sent to a college or NCAA or a similar agency, then you will need to log on to: www.parchment.com to order transcripts to be sent. The request is then forwarded to SoHi. After processing, it then goes through cyberspace rather than the U.S. mail to get to its destination, which is much faster. All transcripts that are headed for NCAA, colleges, etc. have to be processed this way.

— Final Transcrips: A final transcript is one that shows your second semester grades. If you order your transcript when we are in second semester, you will need to make sure you choose “next grading period” when you go on to Parchment that way your transcript request will wait until the grades are in at the end of the year before it is sent.
