The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Board of Education meets at 6 p.m. in the borough building at 148 N. Binkley Street in Soldotna (unless otherwise noted). For more information, call 907-714-8888 or visit kpbsd.k12.ak.us. The agenda and packet items are posted on Wednesday afternoon prior to the date of the Board meeting. Persons with disabilities who need accommodations to participate at the School Board meetings should contact Debbie Tressler at 907-714-8836 or email dtressler@kpbsd.k12.ak.us no later than three business days before the meeting date. The staff welcome everyone back to Kaleidoscope! The theme for this school year is “The World From Where We Stand”.

If parents would like to be a volunteer, be sure to complete a background check. Go to kaleidoscope.blogs.kpbsd.k12.ak.us/wpmu/volunteers and click the link to the background check. The next link on the page will take viewers to the Online Volunteer Training for those who were unable to attend the in-house training last week. These two steps must be completed each school year in order to volunteer at Kaleidoscope. Volunteers make all the difference and are very appreciated!

Lunch menus are now only available online. They are on the Kaleidoscope webpage as well as the KPBSD webpage and KPBSD app.

■ Aug. 30 – The first PTA meeting of the school year is at 8:35 a.m. Everyone is invited and welcome to attend!

■ Sept. 1 – Kindergarten Volunteer Training at 4 p.m. in the kindergarten classrooms.

Mark calendars for Sept. 29 — Fall Pictures. Packets will be sent home in Friday Folders prior to the date.

The staff say ‘Welcome back!’ School got off to a great start with a back to school assembly and class meetings.

■ Sept. 1 – Open House from 6-8 p.m. Please join the Kenai Central High School staff for this event and an opportunity to meet the administration and teachers.

Homecoming Week is Sept. 5-10 – be on the lookout for more information!

Important dates:

■ Aug. 30 – Volleyball at Home versus Nikiski at 3, 4 and 5:30 p.m.

■ Sept. 1 – Back to School Night at 6 p.m.

■ Sept. 2 – Football Home versus Eagle River at 3 and 6 p.m., and swim and dive at Home versus Soldotna and Seward at 2:15 p.m.

■ Sept. 3 – Cross Country at Palmer at 10:30 a.m.

The school year is off to a great start! If families have questions about bussing, lunch money, or schedules please call the office at 283-8600. If families need to make changes to their child’s bus route or after school routine, staff ask that parents call before 2:30 p.m.

There is no school on Monday, Sept. 5.

The first PTA meeting of the year will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 4 p.m. in the Library.

All Mountain View students will be dismissed at 1:55 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14. This early release day allows grade level teachers to begin collaborating early in the afternoon and then continue after normal release time as part of their scheduled staff meeting time.

■ Sept. 20 – Picture Day. More information will be coming home soon.

Staff want to say ‘Welcome back!’ School is in full swing as August comes to a close. Nikiski Middle High School welcomes several new staff members this year: Joetta Wolff, Mariah Vraniak, Mark Smith, Paul Nelson, Dave Hernandez, and Samantha Playle. There will be an Open House on Tuesday, Aug. 30 when parents will have the opportunity to meet these new members of our community.

Important dates:

■ Aug. 29 – C Team Football at Seward High School at 3 p.m.

■ Aug. 30 – Open House at 6:30-8 p.m. All parents are welcome to attend!

■ Sept. 2 – Football t Nikiski versus Vosnesenka at 5 p.m., C Team Volleyball at Homer at 4 p.m., JV Volleyball at Homer at 5 p.m., Varsity Volleyball at Homer – 6 p.m.

■ Sept. 3 – High School Cross Country Running at Palmer Invite at 10:30 a.m.

■ Sept. 5 – Holiday; No School for students or teachers.

■ Sept. 7 – Picture day; Students should be bringing home the picture ordering packet soon.

It has been a great start to the new school year!

The first PTA meeting of the year is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 1. The meeting will be held in the staff lounge beginning at 3:45 p.m.

Mark calendars for volunteer training that will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 7 in the school library. This is a very important training that will enable everyone to be able to help out in the school.

There will not be school on Monday, Sept. 5 for the Labor Day holiday.

School pictures are scheduled for Friday, Sept. 9 in the library. Sibling pictures will be taken at 3:30 p.m. If families need more information, please call the school office at 776-2600.

Welcome back to school, the staff hopes everyone had a safe and restful summer.

Parents, it is important that everyone maintain current and correct contact information for all students. If families have any updates or changes would like to make please stop by or call the school office to make those changes.

Free and reduced lunch program applications along with other important forms and information will be sent home with students the first week of school. Please be sure to complete all applicable forms and return them to the school as soon as possible.

School supply lists are available online at the KPBSD web site, in the front entry way of the school, at Fred Myers and Wal-Mart.

As a reminder, all new students to the KPBSD must have a current (within one year) student physical on file with the school office. Please contact the school nurse for additional information.

The staff look forward to a great school year. Please feel free to contact the school office if families have any questions or concerns.
