KPC Director Gary Turner recently made note of the fact that the first engineering practices class in KPC history will be offered at the Kenai River Campus in the spring. "It is the gateway course to the UAA engineering degree and would be an excellent choice for those students wondering if engineering is the right choice for them," said Turner.

Students and parents gathered at Our Lady of the Perpetual Help Catholic Church to participate in the international "Walk to school" day on Wednesday. The convoy was led by Central Emergency Services fire trucks to Redoubt Elementary, about four blocks away. The purpose of the world wide event is to promote awareness and safety among pedestrians. Locally, the focus was on visibility.

"We're getting into this dark season," said Jane Fellman, Safe Kids coordinator at Central Peninsula Hospital. "We try to get people aware of the importance of being seen."

KPC’s Kenai River Campus will host an informational overview of the UAA/KPC associate of applied science nursing program and offer advising sessions on Friday, Sept. 30 in room 109. Anyone interested in nursing education is encouraged to attend, whether currently enrolled at KPC or not.

In 2004, Jayden Tumbaga was looking down two paths. A tragic car accident had left his father paralyzed and his mother injured, changing everything he had known.

One path led to dwelling on the negative. The other path was to overcome.

The 10-year-old Tumbaga chose the latter.

Over the next seven years, that attitude would lead the Nikiski resident on a path that has allowed him to give back to his community and inspire others.
