With five and half months of construction yet to be completed, the new dorm facility at KPC’s Kenai River Campus is garnering lots of student interest and generating questions for the student peer advisors who answer telephone calls.

As part of their weekly staff meeting, Campus Services personnel and other KRC staff took a tour of the facility so they might be better prepared to field detailed questions.

KPC’s popular summer semester will be offering more than 70 courses in a variety of subjects. Registration opened at 12:01 a.m. today, for returning, admitted students. General public registration will be available starting March 4.

The schedule is available on the KPC website for planning. Seats in general requirement courses, as well as those required for popular programs such process and industrial instrumentation technology, computer electronics and nursing will fill quickly. Classes begin May 20.

It was all cold cheeks, sunny weather and shouts of “fish on!” at Sport Lake on Wednesday, where Kalifornsky Beach Elementary third-graders learned to ice fish.

Students in 22 classes from 15 schools spent Wednesday brushing up on their fishing skills as part of Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s yearlong Salmon in the Classroom curriculum.
