Coffee means cash for Kards in Kenai

Posted: August 17, 2011 - 1:58pm

Kenai Central High School football players past and present lined up along the Kenai Spur Highway last week to invite everyone to the grand opening of the new C-Cup coffee drive-through next to Dan's TV. "We weren't actually doing any blocks or interceptions, we were mainly inviting them in and letting them know by getting their coffee here they were helping out the Kard's football team," said senior Kyle Dougherty middle linebacker for the Kenai team. The new C-Cup is owned by Amy Jackman who said it was her daughter Jordan's idea, "She's a sophomore at KCHS this year and we were thinking about a fun back to school theme for our grand opening and Jordan said wouldn't it be fun to get the guys out here as guest baristas and serve the drinks while getting to meet the community. So we decided to donate .25 cents per drink and half of all the tips to the football team during our grand opening week and the turn out was fantastic," reported Jackman.

According to Amy education plays a big part of her new business both in training and supporting local activities, "From the way we train our baristas to the theme days and weeks we are planning we are very education based. And we all like to have fun and play dress up and wear costumes so this is just the beginning of our fun theme weeks at C-Cup," she said. Baristas Chelsea Hardcastle and Vanessa Sullens indeed were having fun at the C-Cup grand opening and happy to be helping the team, "I actually go to Nikiski High School and am a senior this year but I'm glad to be helping as I'm sure they'll be paying for it on the field later on," laughed Sullens. "We're doing great and the favorite drink today seems to be the hot toddy latte," added Chelsea.

Tackle for the Kards senior Michael Lott said he was having fun playing with the traffic, "We had to get up really early to be here and help out and then we've been practicing from 1:00pm -7:00pm everyday, but this is more fun than practice I have to admit," he said. The Kards started their season Saturday with a game against Eielson. The new C-Cup is located next to Dan's TV & Appliance and Olga's Jewelry on the Kenai Spur Highway; they are open daily Mon - Saturday 5:00am-7:00pm and Sunday 8:00am-5:00pm.
