"Grin to Win!" New "MacHaus" opens in Soldotna

Posted: September 7, 2011 - 8:11am

Ben Schaafsma who grew up on the central Peninsula and went to Cook Inlet Academy through 10th grade before moving back to Michigan with his family returned to his hometown last week to officially open the new "machaus" across from the Blazy Mall on the Sterling Highway in Soldotna.  What is a machaus?  "A machaus is an Apple Specialist which is the top tier of being an Apple retailer and service provider.  So we are bringing Apple products and service to local communities in Alaska," explained Schaafsma.  While not an outlet for I-phones, the new machaus does have the new I-pad and most of the other Apple product line of computers they carry and service says Ben, "Apple has done a fantastic job with the Mac line of computers with two avenues to go with either the lap top or desk tops which are super easy to set up with Apple's hardware and software they have designed that is a customer friendly experience even if you are more than ten years old."

Schaafsma finished school in Michigan where he met his wife and then returned to Alaska in the year 2000 to work at Victory Bible Camp for three years, "That brought me back to the state and then we started Alaska's first machaus in Wasilla in 2004 and have grown from their to be Alaska's largest Mac specialist with stores in Anchorage and Fairbanks and now I am really happy to be back where I grew up to open a store here in Soldotna, this community truly is different in a wonderful way from anywhere else," said Ben.

To celebrate the machaus grand opening Schaafsma has placed thousands of stickers on copies of the Peninsula Clarion that are good for up to $50.00 off at the new machaus when you bring the sticker into the store.  And as you stop by you'll want to be sure to "Grin to Win!"  "It's a contest going on at all four of our machaus locations in Alaska, all you have to do is take a picture of yourself standing by our sign and post it to our facebook and get all your friends to like it and you could win a new I-pad," explained Ben.  If you don't have any idea how to do that the friendly folks at the machaus will be happy to walk you through the process whenever you stop by for a visit.  Hurry! The contest ends September 9th and the winner will be announced September 15th.  The MacHaus is located at 44604 Sterling Highway in Soldotna just before Trustworthy Hardware, call 394-4622 for more information or go to  and sign up for the MacHaus news letter.

Thank you Ben Schaafsma and congratulations to the community for finally getting a MacHaus. I'm running out of reasons to endure a trip to Anchorage. Now, all I need is 1200 of those Clarion stickers ....
