HEA calls for board of director nominations...

For anyone who resolved to make a difference in your community in the year of 2012 and is interested in energy and the costs thereof, you might find the Homer Electric Assoc. (HEA) call for nominations to their board of directors a perfect time to step up and get involved. The nomination period is officially open for seats on HEA's Board of Directors and nominations are being accepted from members interested in running for a seat, "Anyone interested in serving who is an HEA member is eligible," says Joe Gallagher, HEA's information director, "It's a pretty simple process, we have a nomination packet that can be picked up at the HEA office in Kenai or Homer or it can be down loaded on line at www.homerelectric.com It's a simple packet that requires you getting 15 signatures from HEA members who also reside in your district and that will put you on the ballot," he explained.

The cooperative's Board is made up of nine directors, three from each of the three districts that make up the service area. This year, the District 1 (Kenai-Nikiski-parts of Soldotna) seat held by Nikiski resident Alan Bute will be on the ballot. In District 2 (Soldotna -Sterling - Kasilof area) the seat currently held by Soldotna resident Ed Oberts will be up for election. In District 3 (Ninilchik-Homer-Seldovia area), HEA members will vote for the seat currently held by Jim Levine of Homer. HEA directors are elected by district, with members voting only for the director in their respective district.

According to Gallagher there is a lot going on right now with HEA which all comes under the purview of the board of directors, "We're in the process of building generation plants right now and in the year 2014 we'll become responsible for our own generation so there is a lot of responsibility that comes with being an HEA director.

The board meets once a month, but there is a lot of work the directors put in to preparing for those meetings," added Gallagher.

The deadline to submit the Candidacy Packet is 5 PM on March 2, 2012. Completed packets can be dropped off at either the Kenai or Homer HEA office.

Ballots will be mailed out to HEA members on March 30, 2012, and the results will be tabulated and announced at the Annual Meeting on May 3, 2012, at the Homer High School. For additional information contact Joe Gallagher at (907) 283-2324.
