Mayor Porter presents Mary Ford with Key to the City...

Kenai Mayor Pat Porter presents a Key to the City to Mary Ford with son Larry and wife Carol.

For years Mary Ford was known for her journalistic photography of the Kenai Peninsula as well as her service along side of her husband George in every community charity and event from Rotary, to United Way, to the relocating of historic cabins of Old Town Kenai just a few year ago. George passed away last year and Mary is on her way to enjoy the extended sunshine and warmth of California, but before leaving Kenai City Mayor Pat Porter presented her with an official Key to the City, "Now when the mayor locks up the city for any reason I'll be able to get in," laughed Mary after receiving the shiny golden key. "In Kenai we're always open for business and we'll always be open for having people who have touched so many lives in our community come home anytime. The Ford's have always had our hearts, and it was an absolute honor to present Mary with a Key to the City so she will know that she can come home any time she wants and all doors will always be open to her and her family," said Mayor Porter.

"I may be back for fishing season but it's been a long cold winter and the last time I talked to my daughter it was 75 degrees down there," she smiled. Mary was accompanied by her son Larry and wife Carol Ford at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce presentation and confessed it was a happy and sad moment, "It's going to be hard not to have the folks around here but it'll be nice knowing that she's down there with my sister and they're looking forward to having her down there," said Larry. So farewell Mary! Enjoy sunny California, but remember to use your Key to the City often. We have a richer and more beautiful community because you and George decided to come here.
