Alaska's Playground hosts 27th Sport, Rec & Trade Show...

Alaska's Playground hosted the 27th Sport, Rec & Trade Show thanks to the Kenai Peninsula Association of Realtors (KPAR) who took up organizing the event two years ago. "We didn't want to see the fun event go away so we took it over and have worked to make it better than ever with more vendors and activities for everyone. For us it's become part of our commitment to give back to the community," said KPAR past President Dale Bagley. The event also serves as an opportunity for the KPAR to sell raffle tickets to benefit Habitat for Humanity and Hospice with proceeds being split between the two non-profit organizations according to Bagley. The grand prize for this year's raffle was $2,000 cash which was won by Kathy Sullivan,

"We want to thank our sponsors The Peninsula Clarion, River and Sea Marine, KSRM Radio Group, Busy Beaver Log Furniture, and the Kenai River Sportfishing Assoc. We also want to thank our terrific vendors, we had a great second year and enjoyed working with our Sponsors and Vendors to make it the best ever. Watching kids catch their first trout at the Kenai River Sportfishing Assoc. trout pond was terrific and we really appreciate the Alaska Department of Fish & Game for providing all those nice biting fish that gave the kids an exciting experience," said Bagley.

Part of this year's event was the Great Alaska Sportsmen's Prayer Breakfast held May 5th at the Sports Center with keynote speaker Johnny McCoy, survivor of a gruesome Brown Bear attack while hunting moose with his long time hunting partner. His dramatic story was featured in Outdoor Life's magazine.
