Located where the Funky Monkey use to be in the C-Plaza along the Spur Highway in Kenai is an all new restaurant called "Playa Azul." Featuring the atmosphere of the Mexican Riviera here on the Kenai Peninsula, "We wanted to bring something a little different for the people here," said owner Pancho Rodriquez. "The fast food order at the window experience coupled with south of the border decor and Latin hospitality is very popular. We have only been open a few days and we are excited about how the word of mouth has spread and how well we are doing. I guess that's what happens when you have the lowest prices in town. We also have a soft drink beverage bar and we are the first to feature the many tropical flavors of 'Jarritos.' This is a very popular soda drink from Mexico and very delicious with your favorite burrito."
Pancho says he has been cooking Mexican cuisine for over 18 years and learned many of his skills at his uncle's restaurant in California before moving to Alaska. "I have some of my grandmother's mother's homemade recipes that we prepare the same way she did and people like them a lot. People tell us our sopes, burritos, and tacos are their very favorite so you don't have to go to Mexico to have very authentic Mexican food, we bring Mexico to your house for a mini-vacation, Mexico en la casa!" he said.
Playa Azul is open 7 days a week from 11:00am - 9:00pm and do catering and take out orders as well. Just give Pancho, Franco, or Miguel a call at 283-2010 to place an order or cater your favorite party or event.
"We want everyone to know that Playa Azul is the place Where Everyone Is Number One! And everything is delicious! So please come by and visit us." Sometimes you have to go north to get south of the boarder. Playa Azul is located in Suite #1 at the C-Plaza across the street from the Kenai Christian Church on the Kenai Spur Highway.
