Alaska Communications asked their employees to come up with ideas how they could give back to the communities they serve. Melinda Kay at the Soldotna store told the Dispatch, “My daughter had volunteered with the Peninsula Food Bank last year as her community service project so the idea came to me that we could help people having hard times this winter while getting folks into the store to get some special discounts on all the neat phones and accessories we have here,” she said. The Alaska Communications van was parked outside and for every can of food brought in, up to four cans, a $5.00 dollar discount was taken off the purchase of any phone or accessory. “It was a great idea and I’m really happy that it came from our employees enabling us to be more involved serving our community. It was a classic win win opportunity, the customer could feel good about helping their friends and neighbors by bringing in items for the Food Bank while getting a nice discount on items they need. It also gave Melinda experience in coordinating the event as well as meeting and working with members of the community,” said Randy Dobbs, Alaska Communications general manager.
“It was amazing and so much fun!” exclaimed Melinda at the closing of the event Friday, “We had people that we hadn’t seen in many many years come in so Alaska Communications being able to help customers we hadn’t helped in a long time with discounts that saved them up to $20 cash on items they needed, all while collecting nearly 100 items for the Food Bank.” Deborah Beaudry, lead sales and service agent for Alaska Communications said, “The turn out was great even though old man winter was getting his final kicks in. We had some great give-a-ways and a lot of excitement, even some dancing going on during the day so it was a total success and a lot of fun for all of us.”
Regarding the latest at Alaska Communications Beaudry reminded everyone that they had rolled out the 4G LTE and would be expanding that throughout the summer and beyond. She also invited everyone to stop by any of the stores in Soldotna, Kenai and Homer to check out the latest phones and promotions, “My best suggestion would be to like us on Facebook and that way you can keep up to date with our current promotions, events, and specials and know what we have coming. One of our goals is to participate more in the community, so we’ll be holding more of these special events here in Soldotna, Kenai and Homer stores,” she said.
