Peninsula's only Sport Rec & Trade Show offers fun & toys for everyone

The 28th Annual Sport, Rec and Trade Show hosted by the Kenai Peninsula Association of Realtors (KPAR) on the first weekend of May had it all, cloudy rainy Saturday followed by a sunny Sunday. “I think some folks that came out Saturday came back Sunday with a sunnier attitude,” said KPAR president elect Daly Bagley. “This was an exciting year for the show, with many new vendors and higher attendance than in the last few years. Much of this was due to our amazing sponsors and their support. Thank you to our media sponsors, The Peninsula Clarion and KSRM Radio Group as well as to our Denali Sponsor, Peninsula Powersports,” Melissa Duffy, KPAR executive director told the Dispatch.

“Our ‘Passport’ stamping event was a huge hit this year! Daily $100 prize winners were ecstatic. Thanks again to our Door Prize Sponsor Busy Beaver Log Furniture for the beautiful Grand Prize log bench and matching table. In addition to the always popular Bear Bait Clinic put on by the Department of Fish and Game, and the Safari Club’s Gun for the Hunter, we also offered a Remote Property Energy class from UAF Cooperative Extension Service. Next year we look forward to expanding the selection of classes,” said Duffy. The Trout Pond sponsored by the Kenai River Sportfishing Association was again the most anticipated event for the kids. As rain fell and Soldotna Mayor Dr. Nels Anderson tied lines, 7-year-old Willow hooked the first fish of the day. “The fish put up a good fight, but a few lucky kids went home proudly carrying their rainbow trout. We greatly appreciate the Department of Fish and Game for supplying the fish, Central Emergency Services for the use of their water containment unit and fire hydrant H2O. Their were a slew of volunteers helping the kids including; Courtney Stroh & her ROC the Kenai group, the Boy Scouts and Mayor Anderson, the Nikiski Cheerleaders and Caring for the Kenai. Thanks to everyone that helped for making the trout pond a wonderful experience for the kids!” added Duffy.

“With the beautiful weather Sunday, we just had to put on a car show. The first annual Sport, Rec and Trade Car and Truck Show sponsored by NAPA / Peninsula Auto & Truck Parts was a huge success, and we plan to have it again next year. Congratulations to ‘People’s Choice’ winner Freddie Pollard with his 1957 Nomad. Big thanks to Freddie’s Roadhouse for offering up second and third place prizes. Thanks to everyone that brought out cars and trucks. We sure enjoyed the view and the memories those cars brought back to mind! KPAR would like to thank everyone that helped with the show and all those that attended. There are so many that devote their time and support to this community event, and we appreciate it immensely. We look forward to focusing our efforts on our upcoming Habitat for Humanity and Hospice fundraiser where we will host a Disc Golf Tournament in August. We expect to have a fun day raising money for these great organizations and hope to see everyone there,” concluded Duffy.
