Springer Real Estate opens new office and that's not all

Darla and Bob Springer took the term “multiple use” to heart when they renovated a building that once was only a dentist office on K-Beach Rd. The home office for the new Springer Real Estate Group is now in the Springer Building which once housed Rohloff Dental clinic. Darla Springer was formerly with Five Star Realty where she managed a Kenai Branch office prior to opening Springer Real Estate Group last October. “I miss the group at Five Star but I love having my own building and serving the community on our own,” Darla told the Dispatch at a recent open house. The Springer Building also houses White Dove Paper & Gallery, RS Inspection Services and Accent Color Painting.

White Dove Gallery formerly had a shop at the Kenai Landing and Manager, Shannon Fitt says she is thrilled with their new location, “People have been looking for us now that the Landing is closed and here we will have so much more to offer along with White Dove Paper which imports papers from all over the world. It’s a mini-gallery really and we will be having classes on book making, with all the tools available right here and we are planning on getting accredited so we can offer classes through the school district for home school people. We are also showcasing different artists here at our gallery,” she said. The White Dove Gallery is open Monday through Friday 11:00am – 5:00pm.

One of the artists now at the gallery is “The Old Knot Head” himself, wood carver Richard Behrens. Behrens is a carver from Sterling and maker of tables, canes and bowls in addition to his sculptures, “I guess someone called me that once and it kind of fit so I just kept it,” said Behrens. “Years ago I just had a cabin out in the woods and once I built it I had to furnish it so I started observing formations of certain trees and I started seeing table legs or tops for tables and one thing led to another and once you start carving and making the most of nature for yourself, I started thinking maybe other folks would like this in their homes so I started selling my pieces and now they say I’m an artist. It’s something I enjoy and when someone else enjoys what I make it makes one appreciate even more and inspires my imagination,” he said.
