2005 Nikiski High School grad Paul Morin after graduating from law school has returned home to work and follow in his father Phil’s footsteps of bringing great musical theatre to the community with the Kenai Performers. Paul is directing the Rocking ‘60’s Musical Soap Opera “Suds!” “I was approached by our producer Mary Krull to direct Suds for the Kenai Performers and given the fabulous put together for this show I just couldn’t turn it down. I’m proud to be from a family that cultivated the arts and encouraged them and am glad to now be giving back to the community in this way,” Morin told the Dispatch in an interview prior to opening night last weekend.
The story of Suds is placed in a 1960’s laundry mat where Cindy, a happy-go-lucky girl looking for love and her adventure in pursuing her quest. The musical features no less than 40 all time favorite Rock hits from the sixties with period dance steps choreographed by another returning home grad, professional dancer Kacia Dimick who danced regularly at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida and came home to teach dance at Vergine’s Studio in Soldotna, “The show is super fun with lots of energy and I think will be a happy walk down memory lane for many folks from our community,” said Dimick. The price of the ticket to the Rocking ‘60’s Musical Soap Opera includes a delicious Chicken DiFlorencia in roasted red pepper cream sauce created by Kenai Catering’s Steve England and an amazing coconut cream desert by award winning desert chef Bobbi England. “Suds!” will also be presented this weekend June 28th & 29th with dinner served promptly at 7:00pm in the banquet room of the Kenai Merit Inn and followed by the performance with plenty of daylight following the curtain call to go fishing in the land of the midnight sun.
