Black Jaxx now in two places at once

Posted: July 15, 2013 - 12:30pm  |  Updated: July 17, 2013 - 10:19am

Great news for hungry Alaskan’s that love those Black Jaxx barbeque ribs, brisket and chicken done to perfection by Harold and Nikki Blunt. Thanks to the new smoker that Harold had built to his specifications in Oklahoma that he personally hauled to Alaska this spring you can pick up his bologna and pulled pork too at another location. Yep! They’ve figured out how to be in two places at once. When Harold first brought Black Jaxx to Alaska he was located out in Sterling and hundreds of folks would drive out there just to pick up there lunch or dinner because it was that good. Then just last year Harold and his sweetheart Nikki, known as the “Bean Queen” moved their famous smoker to Soldotna across from Bailey’s on the Kenai Spur Hwy and the town went wild. This summer you can get all the delicious items on the Black Jaxx menu at the new Black Jaxx II on K-Beach Rd. next to Save U More. “We now are a chain with two links,” says Harold who personally does the cooking at both locations, “It’s hard and I’m very sleepy all the time, but we’re still selling out early at both locations and that gets me a cat nap in the afternoons before I start cooking at 2:00am for the next day,” he told the Dispatch. In addition to their popular single or two meat sandwiches at Black Jaxx you can get a complete dinner with up to three meats for the hearty appetite. Choose from ribs, brisket, and bologna, pulled pork, sausage and chicken. Side dishes include Cole Slaw, Potato Salad, Chips and of course those secret recipe “Bean Queen” Baked Beans. “I make more than six gallons of beans everyday,” said Nikki. Having a lot of fishing friends over? You can buy Black Jaxx smoked meats by the pound and half pound or with a week’s notice they’ll cater your event or party of any size. “Just give us a call and we’ll be happy to help you out,” said Nikki. At the new location you’ll have the fun of meeting Matt and Nate Reams, “I’ve been with them for three years and I help do it all, I keep coming back because this is really the best BBQ anywhere and that’s no Bologna,” laughed Nate, “The politicians really love Harold’s smoked Bologna, see I’ve even learned some of his jokes,” admitted Nate.

In Soldotna Black Jaxx BBQ is open through the summer from 11:00am-6:30pm or until they sell out seven days a week. At the new K-Beach Rd. location you can get Black Jaxx BBQ six days a week Monday-Saturday from 11:00am until they sell out. Call in advance orders to pick up are always welcome at either Black Jaxx in Soldotna 262-2255 and now on K-Beach Rd. at 262-5550.
