Sweeney's Warehouse - the place to go with the kids you know

It’s been five years since Mike has opened Sweeney’s Warehouse for a summer sale and he admits the motivation for this year’s opening was from his grand kids. “Well, even the employees have said let’s get the warehouse going and the grand kids got involved because they wanted to earn some money this summer for a dance competition trip, but it’s not easy when you’re that young so they recruited some of their friends and cleaned up the warehouse real nice and now they are working here helping customers find the bargains and learning the business and a good work ethic,” Sweeney told the Dispatch in an interview opening day.

Sweeney’s in Soldotna next door to Mykel’s restaurant on the Spur Highway is known though out Alaska as the place to go for the brands you know; the Peninsula’s headquarters for rain gear, specializing in work clothes, boots and accessories. “It’s been a pretty dry summer and we have a lot of stock on hand so we have marked down items as much as 50% and 70% in warehouse making a great value for customers while supplies last,” added Mike. “We have some great prices on camo-shirts and rubber boots for kids and big people too,” said grandson Andrew. Assisting Andrew is his friend Cameron, “Yes this is my first job, I’m only twelve but it’s really fun helping people and I’m saving up for a dance trip to go to California,” she said. Granddaughter Kellie figures the reason for all the sunny weather is because people have their rain gear ready, “It never rains when you’re ready so to keep it sunny come in and be sure you have all the rain gear you need because you never know when you’ll need it in Alaska you know,” she said. “We want to sell everything!” added Kellie’s friend Hannah.

“Oh! And the car I was driving in the Progress Days Parade is ’71 Chevy Caprice that I’ve owned for 40 years, we’re definitely a family owned community store with a great past, present and future,” says Mike.

You’ll find all kinds of summer apparel at Sweeney’s Warehouse from short sleeved fishing shirts to Alaska printed t-shirts, cargo shorts, named brand Hip Boots and kids rubber boots at drastically discounted prices while supplies last. Sweeney’s Warehouse is located behind the regular store and is also opened 7 days a week.
