"For the Care of Your Life" - MediCenter now offers 24/7 access

A “Medical Home” is a term used to describe the health care services at the MediCenter in Kenai located beneath the giant wind turbine next to Three Bears. “It’s nothing new the term has been around for quite some time but the exciting thing is it comes at no extra cost to the patient,” says Joseph Hurley, MediCenter executive director. “Anyone can sign-up with MediCenter and be part of this amazing service. It’s about having real one on one provider time and expanding our hours with direct face to face contact with the provider. At MediCenter, our primary care is about building relationships and placing the patient at the center of their Medical care. We have a team of providers working to get the patients involved in their care, in wellness, prevention, and anticipating patient needs. Many people become lost in a sea of specialists. They sometimes even get their primary care from a specialist which is almost never the best treatment. We live in a generation when many people think that a primary care doctor is the Emergency Room. At MediCenter, we don’t. The primary care medical home does not just stop with primary care. If a condition dictates a specialist, it’s our goal to make sure you get there and that you find your way back home to your primary care provider. If you go to a specialist, our primary care doctor gets the notes and can help you tackle a scary diagnosis. You are not alone and we help make sure you get the next level in quality care,” explained Hurley in a Dispatch interview.

At the MediCenter every visit is a meaningful encounter, “In our MediCenter medical home, we can do things that others simply cannot. We can reduce readmissions, provide specialty care at reduced costs, and remove costly ER visits by getting our primary care provider involved. We have extended our urgent care hours from 5:00pm to 9:00pm and created a program that provides amazing 24/7 access without the emergency room costs. Now you can have telehealth, telephone care, or a direct provider to patient visit by signing up with our 24/7 care access. If you have labs, we call you immediately when they are received. If you are seen for an injury, we call you after 3 days to check-up on you. If you have been to the ER, we call to see what we can do to help. While many talk about how they are a patient centered medical home, we are proving it by improving, adding, and enhancing all levels of care. Battling chronic disease with functional medicine and beating illness is what MediCenter is all about. We are done providing just sick-care, managing chronic illness so they just don’t get worse. We feel as primary care providers that every admission to the hospital is a failure of primary care. It’s time to reverse disease, it’s time to get the patients involved to remove disease through diet, exercise, eating right, and putting them in the driver’s seat of their care. Patients have the option of picking another provider or a facility that is actively working to improve their health,” said Hurley. How many doctors from there can practice at the hospital? How many and who has hospital privileges? From what I hear they don't! Doctors should have to disclose this to there patients.
