To start this story cue up your best mental memory of “Da da da daaaah!” from the Phantom of the Opera and you are on your way to understanding the Phantom Fun that was had last week by the 300 some people who attended the Phantom of the Kenai Masquerade Ball. Presented by Tesoro and the Kenai Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center, the 29th Annual Beer & Wine Experience is the sole fund raising event for the Chamber according to chief operating officer for the Chamber and Visitor Center Johna Beech. The sell out event offered an evening of live music by Troubadour North and delicious dishes especially created for the night by Kenai Catering. Kassik’s Kenai Brewery sponsored the beer and the wine was by Bear Creek Winery of Homer. A first for the head table this year was a “Beer Tower” that allowed guests to refill their own glass as desired without waiting in line at the bar.

Games of chance allowed guests to Da da da daaaah win a choice of sporting fire arms from the “Wall of Gear” sponsored by Sportsman Warehouse or a wagon of spirits, Duck Hunt, split the pot and Seattle Monday Night Football trip. The Kassik’s “Brewer for a Day” that entitled the winning bidder to pick a style of beer, formulate the recipe with the help of a professional brewer and name the results brought $2,600. Another lucky bidder won Cookies for a Year, hand baked by newly re-elected Kenai Mayor Pat Porter. To win a Mexican Getaway with accommodations at Hacienda Del Mar, Los Cabos & 50,000 Alaska Airline Miles you had to buy one or all of the four “Key Items” which came with a key to a locked box. Key items were collector metal trucks from USPS, Carlile Transportations Systems, Weaver Brothers and Lynden Transport. The bidder who bought the lucky key was Da da da daaaah for the third year in a row Jason Avigo of M&J plumbing. “We really appreciate lucky Jason, all the generous bidders and everyone who came out to the Phantom of the Kenai this year, all our sponsors of course, Tesoro our Title Sponsor this year and all our volunteers you really make doing business in Kenai Da da da daaaah Phantom Fun. Mark your calendars for our 30th Anniversary Beer & Wine Experience held Saturday Oct 4th, 2014,” texted Beech.
