Forget Me-Not Center hosts Pre-Mother's Day high tea

On a perfect spring Saturday afternoon before Mother’s Day weekend, the Forget Me-Not Center and Kenai Catering teamed up for a high pre-Mother’s Day tea. “We had some wonderful mothers and well as staff and fathers here with us. Our intention was to show appreciation not only for the mothers in our community but all of the elders in our community and a high tea sounded like a unique way do just that. Kenai Catering was very helpful in arranging the proper tea and appropriate snacks, they were just fabulous in making it a very elegant affair,” said Forget Me-Not program manager Laura Baldwin. “This is my first tea experience so I’m very excited about it and we are having a lot of fun,” commented Angie.

The Forget Me-Not Center administered by Frontier Community Services is a center senior citizens who want to receive services and participate in fun activities Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm “We serve a hot lunch daily and have a lot of fun activities like this high tea, it’s a good way for seniors to get out and meet other seniors while having fun. They don’t have to come every day and many folks just come for part of the day, we’re very flexible,” said Baldwin. The Forget Me-Knot Center is now in its 27th year and provides activities designed to reduce cognitive decline, “I really like the Forget Me-Not program because it not only is a fun place for people to go but also has another purpose that helps slow cognitive decline. People who come get the benefits of socialization and staying connected with the community and can participate in activities that engage all of the senses that follow an active living philosophy that can actually improve cognition and slow dementia by keeping the brain engaged. Research shows the more you use the brain the less you lose of it,” said Baldwin. To learn more about the fun services at the Forget Me-not Center stop by or call Laura Baldwin at 714-6695.
