Dog Show

The love of dogs brought hundreds of breeders, trainers, owners and fans of canine ability and agility to Skyview Middle School for the 2015 Kenai Kennel Club Dog Show. And show they did from the unusual Chinese Crested, “Destiny’s Passionate Kisses,” owned by Laura Pabst of Soldotna who took Best of Show in Saturday’s competition to the Beauceron, “De Joie Du Chateau Rocher” who took best of show Sunday, to the athletic agility trail winners it was a weekend filled with the pleasure of pooches. The Kenai Kennel Club was formed 45 years ago by a local group of people who had a great deal of love for dogs, with the primary objective to educate the public and the betterment of purebred canines. This year’s show chairperson and president of the Kenia Kennel Club, Laura Pabst, “It’s always about the love of dogs,” she told the Dispatch, “We have people who fly up, drive up and come for allover to this show to compete. It’s just amazing to me to see the different breeds and their personalities and instincts that they have, it’s always interesting,” she said.

The outdoor arenas at the Skyview bowl have also become an attraction to professional as well as novice breeders, “They really do perform better in an outdoor environment, they enjoy the freedom and natural setting with wind in their hair and lack of noise of human made machines and banging,” said Pabst. For the visitor it’s always a non-stop show with action going on in a variety of arenas. Just walking among the multitude of shiny Four Star Hotels on wheels with portable fenced enclosures and grooming tables, you can glean an education about whatever dog the breeder is owned by, “They are always happy to talk with folks and tell you about the breed, what they are bred for about the history of the dog that is there that day. It’s a lot of fun and we are glad to put the 3 day show on every year. It’s a community effort and I would personally like to thank all our wonderful volunteers who made the show run so smooth. Could not have done it without them. For complete show results and more information about the Kenai Kennel Club go to kenaikennelclub.org.
