What is a Northern Simulator? Without knowing or having stopped by the Central Peninsula Mall recently you might think of an air conditioning manufacturer, a virtual ski resort or shaved ice place. But when you see, “Your gear, Your game, Your dream season” under the sign and Stephanie Bias with a pink compound bow in one hand, a driver and her three month old son Carson in the other, or see her teeing up to play a world famous golf course in Hawaii, you will certainly pause to learn more.
Northern Simulator is the first of its kind on the Kenai Peninsula and as soon as your freezer is full of fish for the winter you’ll want to stop by to experience the fun and training that awaits you. Located at the Peninsula Center Mall where the Triumvirate Theatre once was, Northern Simulator is the cutting edge of high tech fun and training. “We offer indoor archery and indoor golf simulators, out of the rain and mosquitoes. For golf you can choose an 18 hole course from around the world or the driving range. We have famous courses like the Mauna Kae Resort in Hawaii or Belfry in England, courses from Colorado to North Carolina and Canada, famous PGA tour courses that you actually play and the system breaks down your shot after each hit and puts you your virtual lye, which you then must play with appropriate club or iron,” explained Stephanie.
If you want to get ready for hunting season Northern Simulator has a 20 yard archery range that will take you on a virtual hunt and evaluate your shot, “You can shoot your own bow and your own arrows at the screen, we simply replace your arrow tips with flat ones and you will see a 15 second video of an animal come across the screen and when you shoot the system scores you on how well you make the hit. Its great practice so that you learn to make a clean kill and will be less likely to wound animals when you are out in the field, it’s very realistic and I’ve been a bow hunter for years,” said Stephanie.
The family business is run by Stephanie and Alex Bias, “My husband and I use to play at the Techno Hunt up in Anchorage frequently and we thought that’s 150 miles of traffic or ice and snow and the Peninsula really needs one of these and we thought while we were at it we’d bring in one of the best golf simulators as well,” she said. With only two rooms available at the present time you’ll want to call in for a reservation to be sure the time you want is available.
