School sports don't make better students. The over-funding of school sports and eligibility requirements dumb down curricula over time. There's a reason why American students with B averages would only pass with a D, if they pass at all, in the rest of the world's high standard educational systems.
If the state has the money and doesn't have to borrow the funds, I really don't care WHAT they spend the money on (as long as it is legal). I particularly don't have problems with this because it is a one time expenditure, not a long-term commitment to fund a particular activity, organization, or social class.
This is one more example of how Alaska's economic leaders are trying to prop up OUR economy. This action is being seen on the Kenai at an alarming rate as well by those involved in commerce that continue to say every things Good, we are going to have a GR8 year of Tourism so spend money like there is no tomorrow in preperation for Tourists.
Good thing we didn't spend millions on that Tourist center which would have also needed mass $monies$ donated to keep it afloat just like this shootout is doing.
Stop the Madness & confess we are in major troubles Globally as well as here in Alaska as we continue to pour money into a bottomless basket.
Just because some continue to lie about economics does not make it not so and will eventually expose the truth of reality in every aspect of life, not just Alaska's and America's economy which must be continually flooded with cash to keep this sinking ship righted. What a mess all this avoiding the truth is while we continue to hang on for dear life economically unwilling to face reality & give up even non-essential sporting events that are draining the swamp.
