Dog park gets two paws up

Soldotna Mayor Pete Sprague cuts the ribbon for the 3 Friends Dog Park on North Aspen Drive in Soldotna on Saturday.

“It’s kind of ironic for a former mailman to be dedicating a dog park,” Sprague said.

He is joined by Connie Hocker, left, Nancy Courtright and Joel Todd. Hocker was a driving force behind the creation of the dog park.

Courtright acted as the executor of the estate left by Martha Brewer, from which the park was funded.

Todd, from Soldotna Parks and Recreation, “has been instrumental in making all the dreams come true in the park,” said Hocker. (Photo by Kat Sorensen/Peninsula Clarion)
