Collision sends three to hospital

A two-vehicle collision sent three people to the hospital and closed part of the Kenai Spur Highway Tuesday evening.

A gray Ford Expedition heading north on the Spur collided with a red Honda Civic turning left out of Silver Salmon Drive around 6 p.m. The Ford was driven by a 53-year-old Soldotna woman while the Honda was driven by a 52-year-old Soldotna woman. The Honda had one passenger besides the driver.

Lt. David Ross of the Kenai Police Department said all three people involved were taken to Central Peninsula Hospital due to injuries resulting from the crash, although he did not know the severity of the injuries.

The driver of the Honda was later taken to Providence Hospital in Anchorage for treatment.

"We only will release names of those involved if the crash is fatal or someone is charged with a crime," KPD Sgt. Ben Langham wrote in an e-mail. "Neither will apply for this accident."

Alaska State Troopers, the Kenai fire and police departments, and Central Emergency Services responded to the scene.

Troopers closed a portion of the Spur for almost six hours and rerouted traffic through Beaver Loop Road.

The Bureau of Highway Patrol and KPD are handing the ongoing investigation.
