J.D. Megchelsen poses last week with the pumpkin that he raised this summer in Nikiski. The Anchorage Daily News reported that he set a new state record with the 1,287-pound gourd after a competitor’s pumpkin was disqualified following the weigh-in Wednesday at the Alaska State Fair in Palmer.
