Brown bear sightings in Soldotna residential area

A brown bear has been spotted in the Soldotna area over the past two days. There were six sighting of the bear last night, Sgt. Stace Escott said.
The Soldotna Police Department has had a number of complaints about a brown bear getting into people's garbage in the residential area of River View, which is directly behind the police station.
The bear has caused some property damage. It has knocked over fences trying to escape capture and evade residents.
The police will coordinate with the Department of Fish and Game to make a decision on how to deal with the bear. If it clearly becomes a threat to Soldotna residents police will dispose of the bear.
Residents are being advised to clean up their property by putting away outdoor food sources for bears, such as bird feeders, fish smokers and garbage cans.
