Woman killed after being struck by SUV

A Soldotna resident was killed Tuesday morning after being struck by a vehicle.

Jennifer Rupe, 39, was crouched in the roadway checking on an injured animal when a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Carl Rupe, 43, her husband, struck her.

The accident occurred at 6:20 a.m.

Alaska State Troopers responded to mile one on Robinson Loop near Soldotna after receiving a call from Carl Rupe reporting he struck a pedestrian in the roadway.

Jennifer Rupe was declared dead on scene.

The driver’s visibility was believed to be hampered by fog and darkness, and he was further distracted by another vehicle’s headlights ahead of him, according report filed by Troopers.

Rupe’s body will be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
