Icy conditions lead to crashes

Icy weather was blamed for a crash on the Kenai Spur Highway Saturday afternoon.

Cynthia Felton, 51, of Nikiski crossed the center line and hit John Eimer, 49 and also of Nikiski, around 1 p.m. Both were driving dodge pickups, according to Alaska State Troopers spokesperson Beth Ipsen, and were transported to Central Peninsula Hospital for injuries.

Traffic was rerouted through the Blue Grouse Drive-In's parking lot, so the road was not closed, Ipsen said.

"It was reported that the road conditions were very icy," Ipsen said.

Troopers also responded to a crash that was attributed to icy weather on the Sterling Highway near Kasilof Saturday evening. The road was closed for responders to get vehicles moved, but there were no fatalities. Further information was not available Monday.
