Power outages hit central Kenai Peninsula

Homes and businesses lost power this afternoon as another storm hit the central Kenai Peninsula.

About 2,500 customers lost power in the Kenai area when a transmission line to the Marathon substation went down, said Homer Electric Association spokesman Joe Gallagher. That outage was fixed in less than an hour.

Additional scattered outages affected customers near Sterling, Mackey Lake, Poppy Lane and Kenai. HEA was working to restore power to those homes throughout the afternoon.
