Obama issues Kenai disaster declaration

President Barack Obama issued Thursday a major disaster declaration for the Kenai Peninsula, triggering the release of federal funds to help the area recover from damage caused by severe wind storms that occurred in mid-November last year, according to a news release.

All of Alaska's federal legislators had previously endorsed Gov. Sean Parnell's recent disaster declaration for those windstorms that caused extensive damage and left an estimated 9,000 residents and businesses without power for up to 48 hours in areas caused by trees snapping and breaking power lines.
