Fire destroys Nikiski warehouse

Firefighters are still investigating a blaze that destroyed a commercial warehouse building at Mile 16 of the Kenai Spur Highway in Nikiski late Tuesday evening.

About 20 firefighters with the Nikiski Fire Department and some with the Kenai Fire Department were called to the blaze at 11:44 p.m. Tuesday to the building that was fully involved in flames, Nikiski Assistant Chief Trent Burnett wrote in a release.

No one was injured in the blaze. The building is a total loss.

Fire was venting through the roof with partial roof collapse, but was under control about an hour after crews first arrived.

Crews deployed a defensive fire attack on the building and protected several pieces of heavy equipment and vehicles that surrounded the building, the department reported.

Nikiski Fire responded with two engines, three tankers, one medic unit and two command vehicles, in addition to one tanker and three personnel from Kenai Fire. Crews left the scene about 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Kenai sells bowling alley

After 11 months of receiving offers and holding negotiations, the Kenai City Council has sold the former AlaskaLanes Bowling Alley, a closed business located on the Kenai Spur Highway near the Three Bears grocery store, to Dean You for $450,000.
