Amateur recipe division added to cook-off

The Great Alaska Seafood Cook-Off will feature an amateur recipe division this year.

The competition, put on by the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute, usually only involves professional chefs, but this year, there will be an amateur recipe competition as well.

“We got a lot of questions from folks that weren’t professional chefs but thought that they had a handle on cooking great seafood,” ASMI communications director Tyson Fick said. “So we thought this is a good chance to do that.”

Fick said the competition is looking for an unusual recipe that can be replicated in any home kitchen.

“We’ve got a lot of classic recipes that are real similar,” he said. “A new twist is always nice to see.”

Entering is simple, Fick said. On the main website there is a tab for the amateur recipe contest. Entrants need to submit the ingredients, measurements, the process and a photo of the finished product.

The deadline to enter is May 1, and the winner will be announced May 14 during the cook-off in Anchorage.
