Soldotna council looks at projects

The Soldotna City Council held a special meeting Tuesday in order to discuss a handful of ongoing projects.

"The main reason we had a special meeting was the scheduling of those projects," Soldotna Mayor Peter Micciche said.

The council approved a resolution that authorizes the city manager to execute a contract with Blazy Construction Inc. in the amount of $561,383 for the Wellhouse B reconstruction project. However, before the vote could be held, council member Regina Daniels told the council she had a conflict of interest, as the contract would financially benefit her family's business. Daniels was a member of the audience during the vote.

"We have a functioning conflict of interest policy, and we put it into practice whenever it's applicable," Micciche said.

The council also passed a resolution authorizing the city manager to enter into a memorandum of understanding with Peninsula Memorial Chapel Crematory in regard to the operation and use of the Soldotna Community Memorial Park.

The next city council meeting is scheduled for April 25.
