Target practice near Moose Point led to an accidental shooting of a Nikiski man.
On Sunday at 10:15 p.m., Alaska State Troopers received a report that Brian Nelson Jr., of Nikiski, was struck in the stomach with single shot from a .22 rifle while camping with a cousin near Moose Point, according to a trooper dispatch.
An air ambulance transported the 20-year-old to a hospital in Anchorage. Emergency responders needed to use a MedLife helicopter because high tide prevented them from reaching the remote campsite, said Beth Ipsen, troopers information officer.
The investigation is ongoing, but no foul play is expected, troopers reported.
