A 46-year-old woman died after Alaska State Troopers say she attempted to flee in her vehicle after a traffic stop.
According to a trooper report, on Tuesday at about 3 a.m., a Crown Point-based trooper contacted Zoe Ivanoff at Mile 47 of the Seward Highway.
Ivanoff, who was a resident of the small village of Unalakleet, had a revoked license and was issued a summons. Ivanoff waited in her vehicle for an hour for a tow truck to tow her Nissan Pathfinder. At about 4 a.m., troopers say she drove off in the Pathfinder.
A pursuit ensued, but the trooper eventually lost sight of the Nissan after about eight miles and slowed pursuit. The trooper found the vehicle 10 minutes later; it had driven off the road, according to troopers.
Ivanoff was ejected from the vehicle and was declared dead after troopers and a Kenai Police Department officer attempted life-saving measures, according to troopers.
Members of the Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol responded to the area to conduct an investigation.
Traffic was restricted to one lane during the on-scene investigation. Ivanoff’s body will be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
