Homer Electric crews responded to a power outage on Thursday morning that left approximately 3,800 homes and businesses without power.
HEA reports that the outage occurred at approximately 11 a.m. and affected the area from Boundary Avenue in Soldotna, east through Sterling and a portion of the Funny River community.
According to a press release, Homer Electric crews were able to restore power to the majority of the outage area by 12:30 Thursday afternoon. The power was back on in the Scout Lake Loop and Funny River areas at approximately 1:40 p.m.
The cause of the outage was a large branch that Homer Electric crews found entangled in the power line on Lou Morgan Road off of Scout Lake Loop. It's not clear how the large stick got into the line, but it appears it may have been dropped into the line by an eagle.
