Action on the Russian River was hot Friday night as the largest yet pulse of sockeye salmon moved through the river. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game estimates 1,606 fish moved through the Russian weir on Friday, 859 on Thursday and 1,474 on Wednesday. Last year, the sockeye run peaked on June 30 with more than 2,571 fish pushing through the weir.
