Kenai Peninsula fire departments Monday conducted a live exercise off of Beaver Loop in Kenai. Fire fighters set the unoccupied home, which was stripped of furnishings, ablaze in sections throughout the evening. The pink letters spray-painted on the structure were used to command teams of five fire fighters, and hay and destroyed pallets were used as combustibles to ignite the fires. Central Emergency Services and the Nikiski and Kenai Fire Departments participated in the exercise.
A crew of five exits the first room set on fire during the live exercise. After four crews entered the room, the ceiling collapsed on a crew. No fire fighters were injured, and the exercise moved onto another section of the house.
