Soldotna Council chooses local man for new city manager

Mark Dixson, of Soldotna, has been tapped by the Soldotna City Council to be the next city manager.  

 

Dixson, the current general services director for the Kenai Peninsula Borough was picked from a pool of five candidates interviewed in a series of public meetings Monday in the council chambers. 

It took less than an hour of deliberating for the council to vote on Dixson and direct Soldotna Mayor Peter Micciche to enter into contract negotiations. 

“It’s time to move the city forward procedurally and what we found with Mr. Dixson is his background in procedures, managing personnel, policies, budgets, his background in risk management; his legal background, we thought it was the best fit for the city at this time,” Micchiche said. 

Micciche said he would begin negotiations immediately and hoped to have everything finalized and ready for a vote by the council’s Aug. 8 meeting.
