Firefighters aim to ‘Fill-The-Boot’

Central Emergency Services and Kenai Peninsula Firefighters are holding their annual “Fill-The-Boot” campaign to help the Alaska Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

This year’s campaign will take place Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the intersection of Binkley Street and the Sterling Highway, instead of the intersection of the Sterling Highway and the Kenai Spur Highway, where firefighters collected donations in the past.

Coordinators are hoping to raise at least $15,000 this year. Checks are accepted and are payable to MDA, Alaska Chapter. Money collected for MDA will provide medical services to more than 200 Alaska families.

MDA is the world’s largest nongovernmental sponsor of research seeking the causes of and effective treatments for neuromuscular diseases, disorders affecting the nerves that control voluntary muscles.

Last year, local firefighters raised about $20,000 during the campaign, according to CES.
