A fire fueled by heating gas caused about $100,000 in damage to a house in the Longmere Lake area on Thursday morning, Central Emergency Services officials reported.

At 3:45 a.m. CES responded to a report indicating the un-mounted gas meter at 39395 Hallelujah Trail Dr. was on fire and that flames had spread to the home. The roof of the single story residence was on fire and the gas line was “shooting flames” into the structure, according to a press release. The owner of the estimated $227,000 home is listed as Ron Larson.

No one was injured in the incident.

“The house should be livable once this is all done,” CES Health and Safety officer Brad Nelson said. “They’ll need to replace the roof and fix some stuff but we saved the house.”

While Enstar crews worked to shut down the gas line from a remote location, firefighters worked to contain the blaze and protect the homeowner’s valuables, according to the press release.

CES was assisted by four members of the Kenai Fire Department.

Nelson said at least four entities will investigate the fire to determine its cause. Nelson said there isn’t evidence to directly suggest arson, but it is a possibility.

“But, of course, who knows what we find when we dig,” he said.
