Soldotna Historical Society members Barbara Jewell and Marge Mullen visit as Mike Reece works Tuesday morning to install memorial plaques at Soldotna Community Memorial Park in honor of the city’s early residents from the years between 1947 and 1954. Jewell said that 71 plaques would be placed this week in honor of people who have died and that another 12 had been made for people who were still living. “The ’54 date that we arrived at (recognized) the first patrons at the post office and up to the time we got electricity,” Mullen said.

School district responds to inflammatory tweets posted by hockey player

A pair of tweets from the account of a Soldotna High School hockey player, one coming on Thursday and the other on Friday, created a social media firestorm so big the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District issued a statement on Facebook by Saturday afternoon.

Kenai sells bowling alley

After 11 months of receiving offers and holding negotiations, the Kenai City Council has sold the former AlaskaLanes Bowling Alley, a closed business located on the Kenai Spur Highway near the Three Bears grocery store, to Dean You for $450,000.
