Power restored to Nikiski after outage

Homer Electric Association crews were able to restore power to the Nikiski area about two and a half hours after the outage began late Thursday night.

According to HEA's Joe Gallagher, the outage was the result of a problem at the Bernice Lake substation in Nikiski and initially impacted 3,000 HEA members.

Areas affected by the outage included all of Nikiski and south along the Kenai Spur Highway to Kenai.

"HEA was able to restore power to about half of the affected area by 6:50 p.m., but approximately 1,200 HEA members from the Tesoro refinery south to Kenai remained out of power until 8:20 p.m. when they were put back on line," Gallagher wrote.
