Anderson, Carey on Soldotna mayoral ballot

Former Soldotna Mayor Dave Carey will compete against former Soldotna City Council Member Nels Anderson for the mayoral seat left vacant by Peter Micciche after he was elected to the Alaska State Senate.

Carey served as Soldotna’s mayor from 2001 to 2008. He was then elected Kenai Peninsula Borough mayor, a position he held until 2011.

Anderson, a family practice physician, served on the city council from 2009 to 2012 and on the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Board of Education from 1993 to 2008.

The winner will serve the remainder of Micciche’s term ending October 2014. The election will be April 2. Polls at Soldotna City Hall are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on election day. Absentee ballots will be available at city hall starting March 18.

Vice Mayor Brenda Hartman has handled the city’s mayoral duties since Micciche’s early January resignation.
